Bangladesh Moheshkhali LNG Terminal Resumes Gas Supply

The Excelerate Energy-operated LNG terminal at Moheshkhali has resumed operations after a two-week technical shutdown, offering critical relief to Bangladesh’s strained energy grid.

According to Dr Rafiqul Islam Petrobangla’s Member for Operations the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) began supplying approximately 115 million cubic feet of gas per day (mmcfd) on Thursday morning . The supply is projected to ramp up to 750–800 mmcfd by tonight.

The nationwide gas crisis began on July 21 when LNG imports through the Excelerate Energy terminal were completely suspended due to a technical fault. Because the country's other LNG terminal was already offline, Bangladesh had been relying on a single operational FSRU which severely restricted national gas supply and regasification capacity.

To further alleviate the energy shortage Petrobangla officials confirmed that a new LNG cargo has arrived in Bangladeshi waters. Unloading is scheduled to begin on Friday, which is expected to add another 20 to 30 million cubic feet of gas per day to the national grid [1]. The return of the Moheshkhali terminal marks a vital step toward restoring normal industrial activity and power supply across the country.
