National gas supply in Bangladesh has dropped by 491 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) following the temporary shutdown of the Summit LNG terminal in Moheshkhali for scheduled maintenance.
The maintenance work began at 8:00 AM on Wednesday and is scheduled to continue until 4:00 PM on November 7.
According to Petrobangla, total gas supply to the national grid fell to 2,079 mmcfd on Wednesday morning consisting of 1,565 mmcfd from domestic fields and 514 mmcfd from imported LNG. This supply level is lower than Petrobangla's initial forecast of 2,250 mmcfd also widening the gap against the nation's daily demand of approximately 3,800 mmcfd.
Petrobangla also issued a clarification dismissing social media rumors claiming a complete nationwide gas shutdown for four days. The state-run agency confirmed that gas will not be cut off anywhere, though consumers in several regions may experience reduced gas pressure during the maintenance period.
The country relies on two floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) in Moheshkhali for imported LNG: Summit Group's terminal with a capacity of 500 mmcfd and US-based Excelerate Energy's terminal which provides 600 mmcfd. With Summit's facility temporarily offline also supply will rely on domestic output and Excelerate's terminal until maintenance concludes on Saturday.
