Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain delivered a masterclass on Tuesday with crushing Spanish host Villarreal 6-0 to extend their perfect start in this season's UEFA Champions League.
The French powerhouse set a new tournament record by scoring four goals in just 16 minutes and two seconds. Joao Neves opened the scoring in the ninth minute followed quickly by goals from Desire Doue, Senny Mayulu and Fabián Ruiz. According to UEFA data, this shattered the previous record set by Real Madrid who scored four goals in 20 minutes against Dinamo Zagreb in 2011.
Despite missing key starters including Ousmane Dembele, Marquinhos, Nuno Mendes and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia due to injury, Luis Enrique’s side dominated from the opening whistle. Villarreal’s defensive errors in their own half repeatedly handed PSG clear scoring opportunities.
Ruiz added his second goal early in the second half before 17-year-old defender David Boly marked his Champions League debut by scoring PSG's sixth goal in the 78th minute just four minutes after entering as a substitute.
The dominant victory marks PSG's 10th consecutive win across all competitions and secures their fourth straight victory in the Champions League group stage as they pursue a third consecutive European title.
