Water Resources Minister and BNP National Executive Committee member Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee has criticised opposition political forces for what he called a two-faced political character also saying they take one stance in parliament and another on the streets.

He said the Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer had demanded trial of a government figure in parliament for insulting the Prime Minister, yet a long march was being held the same day demanding that person's release. He described this contradiction as reflective of their political character.

Anee made the remarks as chief guest at a discussion meeting ahead of a rally organised by Laxmipur district BNP part of a five-day programme marking BNP's 48th founding anniversary held Saturday afternoon.

Referring to the 2024 mass uprising, Anee said all parties had protested together with a shared goal the resignation of Sheikh Hasina's government. However, he claimed that Jamaat, Shibir and now NCP represented the same political force operating under different names, showing continuity in stance despite changing identities.

His speech, addressing BNP's position on current political polarisation and the opposition's role also drew a strong response from party leaders and activists present.

Other speakers included district BNP member secretary Shahabuddin Sabu, joint general secretary Hasibur Rahman Hasib and BNP leader Wahid Uddin Chowdhury Happy, along with upazila-level BNP leaders from Sadar East, Sadar West and Chandraganj.

Following the discussion, a rally organised by the district BNP proceeded from Laxmipur Adarsh Samad School ground, moving through the city's main roads before concluding at Laxmipur Balika Vidya Niketan ground. Leaders and activists from BNP's affiliated organisations, including Jubo Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal and Chhatra Dal, participated in large numbers.
