Police have recovered the hanging body of the second wife of Satkhira-4 MP Gazi Nazrul Islam from a flat at the NAM Bhaban in Dhaka.
The body was found at Flat 203 on the third floor of Building 5 of the NAM Bhaban under Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station. Police confirmed the incident.
The incident occurred on Sunday (September 20), with the news spreading in the evening. Police said the body was still hanging at the scene and that a forensic team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was on its way.
Gazi Nazrul Islam was elected as a member of parliament from Satkhira-4 in the 13th parliamentary election on the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s “Scales of Justice” symbol.
In July, a video involving Nazrul and a woman circulated widely on social media. Nazrul identified the woman as his second wife, Mariam Begum.
Following the controversy, Jamaat-e-Islami conducted an internal investigation. The party said its investigation found evidence of what it described as “moral misconduct” and expelled Nazrul from the party on July 22.
Police have yet to disclose further details about the circumstances surrounding his second wife’s death.
