Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) Administrator Md. Shawkat Hossain Sarkar announced a Tk 5,102.35 crore budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year on Sunday at the Nagar Bhaban auditorium.

Presided over by Chief Executive Officer Tanzila Khanam, the budget session highlighted a public welfare-oriented approach notably featuring no new tax hikes for city residents.

The proposed budget outlines a total income target matching the budget figure of Tk 5,102.35 crore and an estimated total expenditure of Tk 2,480.47 crore. This leaves a projected closing balance of Tk 2,621.87 crore at the end of the fiscal year. The primary income stream includes an initial balance of Tk 2,437.26 crore, supplemented by general revenue, water supply funds, government grants, and Tk 2,010.91 crore from foreign-aided projects.

Major allocations prioritize high-impact public services. The corporation is heavily focusing on urban infrastructure expansion waste management water supply development, and mosquito control. Earmarked expenditures include Tk 1,608.73 crore for foreign-aided and DPP-based projects, and Tk 236.25 crore for GCC’s own revenue-based development initiatives.

During the presentation Administrator Sarkar emphasized that the budget aligns with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's directives to transform Gazipur into a clean green city with dedicated investments in roads education and healthcare.

Additionally officials presented a revised budget of Tk 3,463.06 crore for the outgoing 2025-26 fiscal year.
