Gazipur Metropolitan BNP President Shawkat Appointed City Administrator

Md. Shawkat Hossain Sarkar has been appointed as the Administrator of Gazipur City Corporation. A notification in this regard was issued by the City Corporation-1 branch of the Local Government Division of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives on Monday (February 22).

The notification signed by the Joint Secretary of the Ministry, Mahbuba Irin, stated that in accordance with sub-section (1) of section 25A of the 'Local Government (City Corporation) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024', Md. Shawkat Hossain Sarkar has been appointed as the full-time Administrator until the Gazipur City Corporation is formed or until further orders are issued.

Md. Shawkat Hossain Sarkar is currently serving as the President of Gazipur Metropolitan BNP. In the same notification, administrators have been appointed in several other city corporations.

They are Md. Abdus Salam in Dhaka South City Corporation, Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan in Dhaka North City Corporation, Nazrul Islam Khan in Khulna City Corporation, Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury in Sylhet City Corporation and Sakhawat Hossain Khan in Narayanganj City Corporation.

The notification stated that the appointed administrators will exercise the powers and perform the duties of the mayor of the concerned city corporation in accordance with sub-section (3) of section 25A of the said ordinance and will receive allowances as per the rules.

The notification also mentioned that this order, issued in the public interest, will come into effect immediately.
