Magnitude 4.6 Earthquake Strikes Iran

A 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck Bardsir County in Iran's southeastern Kerman Province early Sunday with authorities confirming no casualties or infrastructural damage.

According to Iran's Seismological Centre the tremor hit at 3:46 a.m. local time at a shallow depth of 10 kilometres. The epicentre was located approximately 62 kilometres southwest of the provincial capital Kerman.

Following the tremor provincial Crisis Management chief Gholam Reza Nejad Khaleghi stated that assessment teams were immediately deployed to the affected area later confirming there was no destruction.

Iran has recorded several moderate tremors in recent months including a similar 4.6-magnitude quake near Tehran in May all of which passed without causing significant impact.
