No Room for Political Considerations in Military Promotions: PM Tarique Rahman

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has firmly stated that promotions within the Bangladesh Army must be based exclusively on merit and professional competence completely eliminating any personal or political considerations.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Army Headquarters Promotion Board-2026 on Sunday, the Prime Minister emphasized that promotions are a critical institutional process requiring absolute fairness integrity and professionalism. He stressed that eligible officers must be assessed solely on their professional skills leadership qualities discipline trustworthiness and overall loyalty.

During the ceremony the Prime Minister commended the Bangladesh Army for its vital role in safeguarding the nation’s independence and sovereignty. He also highlighted the armed forces' significant contributions to maintaining internal law and order ensuring national stability and actively supporting the civil administration during natural disasters and other national emergencies.

Upon arriving at the Army Headquarters Prime Minister Rahman was formally received by the Chief of Army Staff and the Chief of General Staff. The Army Chief expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for prioritizing the promotion board event despite a highly demanding schedule noting that his presence serves as a profound source of encouragement for the country's armed forces.
