Farmers in Narail district are anticipating a massive yield of Boro paddy this current Rabi season.
Across the district's three upazilas, growers have already begun harvesting their crops, expressing relief and satisfaction with the healthy production.
According to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) in Narail, Boro paddy was cultivated on 50,307 hectares of land this season. This includes 23,346 hectares in Sadar upazila, 10,337 in Lohagara, and 16,626 in Kalia. Officials estimate a total production of 230,208 metric tons of rice from these fields. Nipu Majumdar, Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer, noted that as of Thursday (April 23), about 8 percent of the district's paddy had already been safely harvested.
On the ground, farmers are working from dawn to dusk, ignoring the severe heatwave to cut and thresh their crops. Rifaet Sheikh, a farmer from Raghunathpur village in Kalia upazila, cultivated Boro on five bighas of land. "The yield has been excellent this year," he shared. "We faced no disruptions, as there was a steady supply of seeds, chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and irrigation water."
Muhammad Arifur Rahman, Deputy Director of the Narail DAE, attributed this season's success to timely government incentives and the adoption of modern farming techniques.
"We have been in constant communication with the farmers, advising them on proper crop care," Rahman stated. "Farmers became highly motivated after receiving seeds, fertilizers, and other agricultural inputs as government incentives. If the weather remains favorable until the entire crop is brought home, we will definitely secure a bumper harvest."
Boro paddy is a crucial winter crop in Bangladesh, significantly contributing to the nation's annual food security. To support farmers and stabilize the market, the government directly procures paddy and rice during this season. According to DAE sources, the government has set the 2026 procurement price at Tk 36 per kilogram for paddy and Tk 49 per kilogram for rice.
