


The 45th martyrdom anniversary of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) founder and former President Ziaur Rahman was observed with a commemorative discussion and prayer session in Joypur, Lohagara on Friday (June 26).
Organized by the Joypur Union BNP, the event took place at the Chachoi Dhanair Secondary School premises.
Speaking as the chief guest, Supreme Court lawyer and senior BNP leader Dr. AZM Fariduzzaman Farhad urged party members to unite under the late president's vision to build a fair and equitable society.
"Leaders and activists from all walks of life must unite, inspired by the unique patriotism of martyred Zia. We must move forward by adopting his ideals to build a Bangladesh free from discrimination," Dr. Farhad said.
He also commended BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman for his ongoing efforts to advance the country, specifically highlighting the revival of the nationwide canal-digging program designed to boost food self-sufficiency.
The meeting was chaired by Joypur Union BNP President Saidur Rahman Hannan Mollah. It was jointly moderated by former Narail District Chhatra Dal General Secretary Enamul Kabir Chandan and Lohagara Upazila Krishak Dal General Secretary Mezbah Uddin Parvez.
Other notable speakers at the event included former District BNP Vice-President Asaduzzaman Zaman, former Narail BNP Vice-President Akramuzzaman Milu, Lohagara Upazila BNP Acting President Md. Hemayet Hossain, Acting General Secretary Md. Tipu Sultan, and former Upazila BNP President Add. Newaz Ahmed Thakur Nazrul. Several other local leaders from the Jubo Dal, Mohila Dal, Volunteer Dal, and Chhatra Dal also addressed the gathering.
The event concluded with a special prayer seeking forgiveness for the departed soul of Ziaur Rahman, as well as peace and prosperity for the nation. The prayer was led by Narail District Olamadal President Md. Obaidur Rahman.
