Iran launched missile attacks on Qatar’s Ras Laffan industrial site, causing extensive damage, following Israel’s reported strike on Iran’s South Pars gas field.
The South Pars field, shared by Iran and Qatar, is the world’s largest natural gas field. Iran had previously warned it would take “decisive action” against energy facilities in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE in retaliation.
The attacks coincided with the killing of Iran’s Intelligence Minister Esmail Khatib in an overnight strike, confirmed by Iran’s president. Simultaneously, Israel conducted airstrikes on Beirut, Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah positions.
Retaliatory strikes by Iran and allied militias have escalated across the Middle East, with reported incidents in Israel, Dubai, Qatar, Kuwait, Iraq, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia, causing casualties and drone interceptions. Two fatalities were reported in Israel, while Gulf countries evacuated energy infrastructure.
The strikes have disrupted energy markets, with Brent crude futures hitting a 52-week high. Qatar’s Foreign Ministry condemned both Israeli and Iranian actions, calling them dangerous escalations that threaten regional stability.
The situation highlights growing Middle East tensions, as regional powers escalate strikes and counter-strikes over strategic energy assets.
