Police have detained a man in connection with the brutal killing of a mother and her daughter in Ramganj upazila of Lakshmipur. The victims — Julekha Begum, 55, and her daughter Tanha Akter Mim, 19, a college student — were found slaughtered inside their home in Ichapur village under Chandipur union on Thursday night. Police detained Sohel Rana, 32, a relative of the victims and son of Mozammel Hossain Bahar from the same household, on Friday night for interrogation, confirmed Ramganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Bari. Following the incident, Julekha’s husband, businessman Mizanur Rahman, filed a case with Ramganj Police Station on Friday night against unidentified assailants. The bodies were sent to Lakhimpur Saddar Hospital for autopsy on Friday afternoon and later buried at their family graveyard. According to police, the killings occurred sometime between Thursday afternoon and 9 pm when no one else was at home. Mizanur Rahman and his son were at their business establishment in Sonapur Bazar at the time.
