A committee of 15 to 20 members will soon be formed to amend the constitution, announced Chief Whip of the National Assembly, Nurul Islam Monir. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday after the third meeting of the All-Party Parliamentary Committee, Monir expressed his hope that opposition representatives would join the initiative.
"A high-level committee will be established to amend the constitution," the Chief Whip stated. "We aim for an inclusive process and are keen to include representatives from all parties, valuing every opinion."
However, opposition lawmakers have voiced disagreement. They argue that the constitution's core issues cannot be fixed through amendments alone and instead require comprehensive reforms.
Opposition members also questioned the legal basis of the proposed committee's current structure. They are demanding the formation of a 'Constitutional Reform Committee' rather than an amendment-focused body. Furthermore, opposition representatives claimed that a statement made by the Leader of the Opposition the previous day had been misrepresented.
