Govt Finalises Legal Panel to Fight Cyberbullying

The Bangladesh government has finalised a legal panel to combat disinformation and cyberbullying aiming to protect online victims—particularly women. Prime Minister’s Information and Broadcasting Adviser Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman, announced Tuesday that the panel will provide crucial legal support once formal approval is granted in the coming days.

Addressing a media briefing, Dr. Rahman emphasised the Information Ministry's commitment to tackling digital abuse. He confirmed that the administrative groundwork—including candidate advertisements interviews and background verifications—is already complete.

Rahman called the initiative "good news for the general public," noting the panel is designed to defend individuals targeted by fake photos forged videos and false narratives. Conversely he issued a stark warning to perpetrators stating the government is treating these offences severely and that this development is "bad news" for those spreading malicious content.

Beyond legal action Rahman highlighted the urgent need to boost digital literacy. He reaffirmed the government's responsibility to educate citizens so they can independently identify misinformation and avoid harmful falsehoods.
