Rail services between Rajshahi and the rest of Bangladesh are temporarily suspended after Rajshahi University (RU) students blocked the tracks on Tuesday morning.
The blockade which began around 6:30 am near the university's Faculty of Fine Arts, stems from allegations that a train ticket examiner assaulted a student. The protesting students have issued a four-point list of demands.
The disruption has stranded the Dhaka-bound Banalata Express and Silk City Express at Rajshahi Railway Station past their scheduled departure times, according to Farid Uddin Ahmed, general manager of Bangladesh Railway's Western Zone. Authorities state that efforts are currently underway to resolve the situation and safely restore train services.
