President Md. Shahabuddin has summoned the second session (Budget Session) of the 13th National Parliament to begin at 3:00 PM on June 7. Exercising powers granted by Article 72(1) of the Constitution, the President called the session to be held at the Parliament Chamber in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka.
The primary focus of this session will be the presentation and approval of the national budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year. A notification issued by Parliament Secretariat Secretary Md. Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan confirmed the schedule.
The 13th Parliament’s inaugural session concluded on April 30. During that 25-day period, lawmakers passed 94 bills, introduced 133 ordinances, and formed seven parliamentary committees. Records show 280 members participated in the discussion on the President’s address.
This marks a significant transition in Bangladesh's legislative history. The last budget session under the previous Awami League administration ended on July 3, 2024, shortly before the government was ousted in a mass uprising. Following a period of reform under an interim government, national elections were held on February 12, 2026. The BNP secured an absolute majority, with elected members taking their oaths on February 17.
