The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has ordered authorities to present former army major Mozaffar Hossain convicted of murdering President Ziaur Rahman before the court on Thursday.
A three-member bench of ICT-2 issued the order on Tuesday following a plea by ICT Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam. The tribunal stated that Hossain's presence is essential to ensure effective justice in the case.
Hossain 77 is currently in army custody. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch arrested him at a Dhaka residence on July 15, handing him over to the Bangladesh Army the following day.
On Monday Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed stated that the long-time fugitive will face trial in a military court under military law consistent with the legal proceedings for other convicts in this case.
