A joint team of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) rearrested robbery suspect Samrat in Mymensingh just nine hours after he escaped from police custody.

Samrat originally escaped on Monday (July 20) afternoon from the Gazipur Sadar Metro Police Station. While officers were preparing to transport him to court he reportedly slipped out of his handcuffs in the station's garage and fled.

Immediately following the breach, multiple RAB and GMP units launched a coordinated manhunt. Using digital tracking authorities located Samrat in Mymensingh and apprehended him later that night. A fresh case has been filed against him for escaping police custody and a court has since remanded him to jail.

Police initially arrested Samrat in Gazipur's Board Bazar area on Sunday (July 19) night. He faces multiple robbery charges across several jurisdictions nationwide.

GMP Commissioner Mohammad Israel Hawlader emphasized the department's zero-tolerance policy regarding the security breach. "We took this escape with the utmost seriousness. Because of the quick action of our joint forces and effective technology use, we recaptured the accused within just nine hours," he said.

Gazipur police have launched an internal departmental review to determine exactly how the security failure occurred and to implement measures preventing future incidents.
