A Faridpur court has sentenced two men Asmat Sheikh and Sagar Molla, to life imprisonment for the 2022 murder of auto-rickshaw driver Naeem Sheikh. A third accused, Ashiq Sheikh, is being tried separately in a juvenile court.
Judge Ashok Kumar Dutta of the Faridpur District and Sessions Judge Court delivered the verdict at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday in the presence of the convicted men.
According to case records, Naeem Sheikh was strangled with a towel on April 21, 2022, during an attempt to hijack his auto-rickshaw. The attackers then buried his body. The victim's brother, Rashed Sheikh, filed a murder case at the Faridpur Kotwali Police Station the following day, prompting an investigation. Police submitted the charge sheet less than a month later, on May 15, 2022.
Following a thorough examination of evidence and witness testimonies, the court found Asmat and Sagar guilty.
Public Prosecutor Advocate Md. Azizur Rahman welcomed the ruling. "The prosecution successfully proved the charges based on the evidence presented," Rahman said. "Justice has been served. We hope this verdict sends a strong message to society and helps deter future crimes."
