The death toll from measles and related complications in Bangladesh is nearing 800. The outbreak shows no sign of slowing down since authorities began tracking it four months ago.
On Tuesday, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported four new deaths linked to measles symptoms and 878 new suspected cases over the past 24 hours. Between Monday and Tuesday mornings 130 new cases were confirmed, though no confirmed deaths occurred during this window.
Since March 15 Bangladesh has recorded 14,708 confirmed measles cases and 119,448 suspected cases. Of the total fatalities 95 were confirmed measles deaths, while 702 deaths were linked to suspected cases.
Fortunately 98,411 patients have successfully recovered from the illness so far.
