


Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali has officially taken charge as the 34th Commissioner of the Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP). He assumed his duties on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.
Upon his arrival, senior CMP officials welcomed the new commissioner with floral greetings. He formally took over the role from the outgoing Commissioner, Hasib Aziz.
Following the handover, Commissioner Shawkat Ali held an introductory meeting with senior officials at the CMP conference room in Laldighi. During the session, he instructed officers to perform their duties with integrity to ensure "people-friendly" policing. He emphasized a 'zero tolerance' policy toward theft, extortion, narcotics, and corruption to maintain law and order across the city.
The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner (Traffic/Admin) Wahidul Haque Chowdhury, Additional Commissioner (Crime & Operations) Muhammad Faisal Ahmed, and other high-ranking officials.
Professional Profile Commissioner Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali joined the Bangladesh Police in 1999 through the 18th BCS. His distinguished career includes roles within the CMP, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), and RAB. He has also served in UN peacekeeping missions in Liberia, Haiti, and Mali. Prior to this appointment, he served as DIG (Logistics) at DMP.
