Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wasiuzzaman Chowdhury inaugurated a cleaning and mosquito control drive at the stagnant lake adjacent to the Paikgachha Municipal Jail on Wednesday morning.

The initiative, managed by the Paikgachha Municipal Council, aims to increase climate awareness and renovate local water bodies. As part of the program, workers are removing surface scum and applying mosquito larvicide to the lake located in Ward No. 6.

Speaking at the inauguration, UNO Chowdhury stated that government ponds and lakes across all nine wards of the municipality will be cleaned in phases throughout the month. He also shared plans to excavate select water bodies to improve their capacity and aesthetic appeal.

Once completed, these renovated lakes will serve as a water source for local residents and support the municipality’s water supply system.

Municipal Executive Officer Lalu Sardar, Acting Primary Education Officer Sanjay Debnath, and other local officials were present at the event.
