Two separate incidents on Tuesday night have left a day laborer and a four-year-old child dead in Pabna. Police have recovered the bodies and detained three individuals for questioning.
At approximately 11:00 PM on Tuesday, miscreants attacked Afsar Sardar (45), a day laborer from Ghughudah Purbapara village in Santhia Upazila. The attackers reportedly tied his hands and feet before stabbing him with sharp weapons and leaving him by the roadside.
Local residents rescued Sardar after hearing his cries and rushed him to the Santhia Upazila Health Complex, where on-duty doctors declared him dead. Police have since detained three suspects for preliminary questioning regarding the murder.
In a separate incident at Bharatpur Dakshinpara village in Atgharia Upazila, a four-year-old boy named Towhid was found dead. Local sources allege the child was suffocated with a pillow by his mother, Mukta Khatun. Following the act, Mukta reportedly attempted suicide.
The child’s father, Tutul Islam, is currently working in Singapore. Family members discovered the scene around midnight and rushed Mukta to Pabna General Hospital. She was later transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) as her condition worsened.
Police are investigating claims that the incident may be linked to an extramarital dispute.
The Officers-in-Charge (OC) of both Santhia and Atgharia police stations confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact motives behind these crimes. The bodies have been sent to the Pabna General Hospital morgue for autopsy, and legal proceedings are currently being processed.
