A mobile court on Wednesday fined a trader Tk 20,000 for illegally stockpiling petrol and selling it at inflated prices in the Sadar Upazila of Faridpur.
The drive, led by Executive Magistrate Deepta Chakraborty, took place between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm at Khalek Chairman Bazar in Gerda Union. Acting on a tip-off from the District National Security Intelligence (NSI), authorities inspected the shop and warehouse belonging to Md. Rashed Molla.
During the raid, officials discovered 245 liters of illegally stored petrol. Evidence also confirmed that the fuel was being sold above the government-fixed rate. The magistrate imposed the fine under Section 46 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009, which was collected on the spot.
District administration sources confirmed that the seized petrol was immediately sold to local motorcyclists at the fair market price. Officials stated that such operations will continue to prevent market manipulation and protect consumer rights.
