The Faridpur district administration has stepped forward with financial and housing assistance for local folk music artist Laili Akhter, whose traditional singing recently took social media by storm.
Faridpur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mazharul Islam officially handed over the financial aid during a ceremony at the DC bungalow on Wednesday afternoon. Senior administrative officials were present to support the humanitarian initiative. In addition to immediate financial relief, the DC announced that the district administration will entirely rebuild Laili’s long-neglected, dilapidated house, which is currently uninhabitable.
"Laili Akhter is the pride of Faridpur," DC Mazharul Islam stated. "The rich heritage of our rural culture shines through her voice and has touched millions of hearts across the country. It is our collective social responsibility to ensure our roots-level artists can live with dignity." He further revealed that Laili's talent has caught the attention of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, and additional state-level support is expected shortly after the Eid holidays.
Overwhelmed with emotion, Laili Akhter expressed her deep gratitude. "I never imagined my simple songs would receive so much love, or that the government would stand by me like this," she said.
Local cultural activists have widely praised the administration's prompt response, noting that such initiatives are vital for preserving Bangladesh's endangered rural folk traditions and inspiring grassroots talents.
