Gazipur Agricultural University has organized ‘Tree-Planting Drive 2026’ as part of the government’s five-year initiative to plant 250 million trees across the country.
The tree-planting programme was held simultaneously at the university’s six residential halls at around 11:30am on Sunday, with an aim to make the campus greener, more attractive and environmentally sustainable.
The university’s tree-planting initiative follows the official inauguration of the campus greening campaign by Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Haque Milan on July 11, 2026. He inaugurated the programme while attending the orientation programme for students admitted to the Summer Term 2026 as the chief guest.
Under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr GKM Mostafizur Rahman, the latest phase of the programme began at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Hall. The activities were organized with the overall coordination and management of the respective residential halls.
Tree planting was subsequently carried out at the New Female Hall, Ila Mitra Hall, Begum Rokeya Hall, Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master Hall and the New Male Hall.
The university authorities said the initiative is expected to contribute to improving the campus environment while encouraging students to become more conscious of tree plantation, environmental protection and sustainable development.
The programme is also being viewed as part of the university’s broader effort to create a greener and more aesthetically pleasing academic environment for students and faculty members.
