Bangladesh Bank has raised the annual foreign currency limit for overseas travel to $18,000 up from the previous cap.
The central bank announced on Sunday that authorized dealer (AD) banks can now issue this higher quota or its equivalent to adult Bangladeshi citizens traveling abroad within a calendar year.
According to Bangladesh Bank the decision reflects citizens' actual foreign currency needs and the evolving demands of international travel.
Children under 12 will continue to receive 50 percent of the adult limit. The existing cap on foreign currency issued as physical US dollar notes remains unchanged with travelers still allowed to carry up to $5,000 in cash within their annual quota.
The central bank said the increased travel allowance is expected to better support Bangladeshi citizens traveling abroad for tourism, visiting relatives and other approved purposes.
