With the slogan “Plant Trees, Save the Environment,” Siratul Huda Trust has successfully completed a two-day tree plantation campaign across several coastal and disadvantaged areas of Khulna.
The special tree plantation drive was held on September 4 and 5, covering Paikgacha, Koyra and Dacope, as well as Soladana, Lata, Deluti, Garuikhali, Gadaipur, Koyra, Kapilmuni, Haridhali and Rarulia areas.
As part of the Tree Plantation Campaign 2026, saplings were planted at government schools, colleges, madrasas, mosques, educational institutions and religious establishments across the areas.
The initiative was organized with the objectives of protecting the environment, addressing the growing risks of climate change and maintaining ecological balance for future generations.
The programme was formally inaugurated by S M Hasanuzzaman, treasurer of Siratul Huda Trust.
Speaking about the climate crisis and environmental degradation, Hasanuzzaman said the coastal region is increasingly facing natural disasters due to global warming and changing weather patterns.
He said tree plantation is one of the most effective natural ways to protect communities from the adverse impacts of climate change and called for greater public participation in environmental conservation.
Tamim Raihan, president of Shamsur Rahman Foundation’s Paikgacha unit, said trees not only supply oxygen but also serve as a natural shield against strong winds and tidal surges.
He stressed the importance of continuing such green initiatives to protect coastal communities from the devastating effects of climate change.
The initiative received support and encouragement from Major Md Mesbahul Islam (Retd), former director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and chairman of Siratul Huda Trust and Shamsur Rahman Foundation.
The overall campaign was supervised by Md Iqbal Hossain, member secretary of the foundation.
Among those who participated in the programme were Soladana Union chairman candidate Hafez Nuri Alam Siddiqui, headteacher Shamim Hossain, former teacher Abdul Gafur Biswas, Md Zakir Hossain Shahin, Maulana Abdul Gaffar, members of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Soladana Union team and representatives of various partner organizations.
Others present included Soladana Union vice-president Md Mostafizur Rahman, Labour Welfare Federation Union president Kazi Asabur Rahman, Union Baitul Mal secretary Md Sohag Hossain, Turjaul Hossain and Ward No. 4 president Md Azizul Islam.
At the conclusion of the campaign, the organizers urged people from all sections of society to plant trees from their respective positions rather than relying solely on government or institutional initiatives.
They emphasized that sustained community participation in tree plantation and environmental protection is essential to mitigating the effects of climate change and preserving the ecological balance of the coastal region.
