Residents and families affected by alleged violence, vandalism and looting in Alamtala village of Laskar Union, Paikgachha, have held a human chain and protest meeting demanding action against those they accuse of the offences and withdrawal of what they describe as false cases filed against victims.
The programme was held at around 12 noon on Sunday (September 6) at the Char Mosque intersection on the main road in Alamtala, in front of a damaged shop. Organised under the banner of “Victim Families and Local Residents,” the protest called for urgent intervention by the local administration and law enforcement agencies.
Speakers at the human chain included Alamgir Jamaddar, Tanu Jamaddar, Babu Jamaddar, Rob Sana, Ataur Rahman Mistry, Munsur Mistry, Nasima Begum, Halima Khatun, Fatema Khatun and Johra Begum, along with other local residents.
The protesters alleged that Rahmat Jamaddar, Hossain, Ibadul, Tutul and their associates have been involved in alleged land grabbing, drug dealing, vandalism and looting in the area for a long time.
According to the protesters, when local residents objected to the alleged activities, the group attacked ordinary people on August 5, vandalised and looted shops, assaulted people and allegedly attempted to kill them.
The protesters further alleged that victims were subsequently harassed through what they described as false and fabricated cases.
The speakers demanded an immediate end to what they described as harassment and intimidation by Rahmat Jamaddar and his associates.
They also called for action against alleged land grabbing and drug-related activities in the area, along with the withdrawal of cases they claimed had been filed against victims.
The protesters urged the local administration and law enforcement agencies to investigate the allegations and take appropriate legal action against those found responsible.
