Parliament Forms 10 More Standing Committees, One Reconstituted

The National Parliament has formed 10 additional standing committees and reconstituted another committee as part of its parliamentary oversight process.

The proposals were placed in the House by Chief Whip Md Nurul Islam under the chairmanship of Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad Bir Bikram. The proposals were approved unanimously through a voice vote.

The newly formed committees and their chairpersons are:

  • Disaster Management and Relief Ministry: Munshi Rafiqul Alam (Feni-1)
  • Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Ministry: AKM Selim Reza (Pabna-2)
  • Labour and Employment Ministry: Md Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas (Pabna-5)
  • Cultural Affairs Ministry: Md Barkat Ullah Bulu (Noakhali-3)
  • Food Ministry: Md Abdus Salam Pintu (Tangail-2)
  • Primary and Mass Education Ministry: Mahmuda Habiba (Reserved Women’s Seat-13)
  • Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry: Abdul Wadud Bhuiyan (Khagrachhari)
  • Fisheries and Livestock Ministry: Khairul Kabir Khokon (Narsingdi-1)
  • Youth and Sports Ministry: Md Abul Khair Bhuiyan (Lakshmipur-2)
  • Shipping Ministry: Zainul Abdin Faruk (Noakhali-2)
  • Agriculture Ministry Committee Reconstituted

The Standing Committee on the Ministry of Agriculture has also been reconstituted, with Md Shahadat Hossain (Lakshmipur-1) appointed as its chairperson.

The formation of the committees adds another layer to parliamentary scrutiny of ministries and government activities, with the committees expected to play a key role in reviewing policies, programmes and implementation of government decisions.
