England captain Harry Brook has broken Shubman Gill's record to set a new world record for the fastest double century in ODIs. He created history by reaching the milestone of 200 runs in just 114 balls against Sri Lankan bowlers.
England captain Harry Brooke has written new history in ODI cricket with the bat. He completed a double century in just 114 balls, attacking the Sri Lankan bowlers in a tri-series match in Rawalpindi on Thursday. The English batsman ultimately played a brilliant innings of 202 runs off 116 balls.
With this, Brook broke the record for the fastest double century set by Indian captain Shubman Gill. Gill had set the world record last month by hitting a double century off 117 balls against the West Indies. However, less than a month later, Brook surpassed him to become the owner of a new record.
England record collection
Brook's devastating innings helped England post 429 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in their allotted 50 overs against Sri Lanka, the highest total by a team in ODI cricket on Pakistani soil, the report said.
The Rawalpindi ground has been memorable for Brook before. He scored a triple century in Test cricket on this ground. Now, he has added another unique achievement to his career by scoring his first double century in ODIs at the same venue.
Brook joins list of double centuries in ODIs
Before Brook, 10 other batsmen have achieved the feat of scoring a double century in ODI cricket. Among them, India's Rohit Sharma has reached the milestone the most three times. Shubman Gill has two double centuries.
Apart from this, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Chris Gayle, Martin Guptill, Fakhar Zaman, Ishan Kishan, Glenn Maxwell and Pathum Nishanka have also scored double centuries in ODIs.
Brook's innings not only brought England a big total, but also added a new chapter to the record for the fastest double century in ODI cricket.
