1,700 kg Jhatka Seized in Nalchiti, 3 Fined

A mobile court seized 1,700 kg of jhatka (juvenile hilsa) during a raid in Nalchiti upazila, Jhalakathi, on Wednesday morning.

Acting on a tip-off, law enforcement intercepted a Dhaka-bound Islam Paribahan bus at the Dapdapiya Zero Point area. Upon searching the vehicle, officials recovered the illegally transported fish.

The operation was led by Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Rezvi Ahmed Sabuj. The mobile court fined three individuals, including the bus driver, a total of Tk 5,000 for the violation.

The seized fish were later distributed among local madrasas and orphanages. Upazila authorities reiterated that the collection, sale, and transport of jhatka remain strictly prohibited to protect hilsa populations, noting that such drives will continue.
