FIVDB's Smart Project Information Workshop held in Sunamganj

An awareness workshop for duck farmers was held in Shantiganj Upazila, Sunamganj, supported by the Palli Karma Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) and implemented by the Foundation for International Voluntary Development of Bangladesh (FIVDB) under its SMART project.The workshop took place at the FIVDB Training Center in ShantiGanj Upazila on Wednesday morning (October 15).

Attendees and Objectives

The event, chaired by Regional Manager Md. Salah Uddin and conducted by Technical Officer (Agriculturalist) Md. Maruf Hasan, featured Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam, Sunamganj District Livestock Officer, as the Chief Guest.

Special Guests included ShantiGanj Upazila Veterinary Surgeon Dr. Md. Selim Reza, FIVDB SMART Project Manager Zahir Uddin Mohammad Firoz, Joint Secretary of Sunamganj District River and Haor Protection Movement Obaidul Haque Milon, and ShantiGanj Press Club President Kazi Mohammad Jamirul Islam Momtaz, along with other project officials.

District Livestock Officer Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam assured the gathering of his department's full cooperation for the SMART project.

Project Impact and Goals

When asked about the workshop, SMART Project Manager Zahir Uddin Mohammad Firoz stated that the project is successfully raising awareness among duck farmers and effectively disseminating new technology through the RECP (Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production) approach. He noted that the initiative is opening new opportunities for duck farming in ShantiGanj, Dirai, and Biswambharpur Upazilas, and thanked PKSF and FIVDB for taking such an outstanding, technology-based initiative for the farmers.

The SMART project's goal is to improve the livelihoods of farmers by regularly training them to be skilled, establishing eco-friendly duck farms, and creating new entrepreneurs through the extension of new, environmentally sustainable technology. During the workshop, the District Livestock Officer handed over grant checks from the SMART project to two beneficiary farmers.
