At least three people, including a driver and a helper, were killed and around 15 others injured in a road accident near the Jamuna Bridge in Sirajganj on Friday (April 3).

The accident occurred in the Nalka area on the western side of the Jamuna Bridge, a key highway route connecting northern districts with the capital.

According to police, the accident involved a passenger bus operated by Bushra Paribahan, which was travelling from Bogra to Mymensingh.

Officer-in-Charge Amirul Islam of Jamuna Bridge West Police Station said the crash occurred after one of the bus’s tyres suddenly burst.

“The driver lost control after the tyre burst, and the bus crashed into the divider (island) and the overbridge structure,” he said.

The driver and his assistant (helper) died on the spot due to severe injuries. Another passenger died while being taken to hospital.

Emergency responders and locals rescued at least 15 injured passengers and sent them to nearby hospitals for treatment. Several of the injured are reported to be in critical condition.

Authorities have begun efforts to recover the damaged bus and restore normal traffic movement in the area.

Police said the identities of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately. Further investigation into the accident is underway.
