A shopkeeper was allegedly assaulted in Laxmipur after refusing to serve a motorcyclist who tried to skip the queue at an oil shop.
The incident took place on April 1 at Tofail & Sons in Dalal Bazar under Sadar upazila. A complaint has been filed with the police.
The accused has been identified as Emdadul Haque Emon, a resident of Dalal Bazar Union. The injured shopkeeper is Tofail Ahmed.
According to the complaint and witnesses, Emon attempted to bypass the queue and demanded fuel. The shopkeeper asked him to follow the line, in line with existing administrative instructions.
Witnesses said the situation escalated when the accused became aggressive and assaulted the shopkeeper inside the shop. He later left the scene but returned with a group and allegedly attacked the shopkeeper again. Local people and employees intervened and brought the situation under control.
Jihadul Islam, a family member of the shop owner, said the shop was following official directives to maintain order in fuel sales. He denied claims that the incident had any political link and said a formal complaint had been submitted against the accused.
However, the accused, Emdadul Haque Emon, denied the allegations. He claimed he was protesting against the alleged sale of fuel at higher prices and was instead assaulted during the argument.
Officer-in-Charge Md. Wahid Parvez of Sadar Model Police Station confirmed that a complaint has been received. He said police will take necessary action after investigation.
