The government has launched a free jute seed distribution program in Paikgachha, Khulna, to support farmers under the "Advanced Technology Based Jute and Jute Seed Production and Expansion Project."

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wasiuzzaman Chowdhury inaugurated the event on Thursday morning at the Upazila Parishad premises. The initiative, implemented by the Department of Jute under the Ministry of Textiles and Jute, aims to modernize local fiber production.

According to official sources, 1,000 registered farmers from Haridhali, Kapilmuni, Gadaipur, Raruli, and Chandkhali unions will each receive 1 kg of high-quality jute seeds. The distribution began Thursday with beneficiaries from Kapilmuni union.

"Jute is our golden fiber," UNO Wasiuzzaman Chowdhury stated during the ceremony. "The government is providing all necessary assistance to increase the cultivation of this eco-friendly crop. This project ensures farmers can maximize their yield through advanced technology and superior seed quality."

The event, featuring a welcome speech by Deputy Assistant Jute Development Officer Aniruddha Kumar Vaidya, was also attended by Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Ekramul Hossain and BRDB Officer Wahid Murad.
