Seven Die in One Day With Measles-Like Symptoms

Seven more people died across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours with symptoms of measles, while 1,098 people were diagnosed with measles or measles-like symptoms during the same period.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) released the figures in its regular measles surveillance report on Wednesday (August 26).

However, the report stated that no deaths were confirmed to have been caused by measles itself during the past 24 hours.

Since March 15, a total of 851 children have died with suspected measles symptoms, while another 99 children have died after being confirmed to have measles. This brings the combined number of deaths from measles and measles-like illnesses to 950 children during the period.

In the latest 24-hour period:

• 73 children were confirmed to have measles.
• 1,098 children were reported with measles-like symptoms.
• 1,019 children were newly admitted to hospitals.
• 954 children were discharged.

According to DGHS data, since March 15, the country has recorded 152,736 suspected measles cases and 18,651 confirmed cases.

During the same period, 133,573 patients were hospitalized, of whom 128,765 have been discharged.
