


The Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized a large consignment of illegal cigarettes with valued at approximately Tk.8.33 lakh during a raid in Bhola's Borhanuddin upazila.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Coast Guard's Bhola Base conducted a special anti-smuggling drive near the Borhanuddin Upazila Health Complex late Tuesday night.
Lieutenant Md. Salman Bin Shawkat the Media Officer of the Coast Guard South Zone, confirmed the incident. He stated that the law enforcers searched a suspected house between 10:00 pm and midnight, recovering 130,800 contraband cigarettes of various brands.
The items were reportedly stockpiled for black market distribution after evading government customs duties. However, no arrests were made during the drive as the smugglers managed to flee the scene upon sensing the presence of the Coast Guard.
Further legal proceedings regarding the seized goods are currently underway, officials added.
