A 24-year-old transport helper was killed in Bhola's Borhanuddin upazila on Monday noon after being crushed under the wheels of the tom-tom he was working on.
The victim identified as Sajib was the son of Md. Ratan Howlader of Padma Manasa village in Kachia Union. The fatal incident occurred on the Bhola-Char Fassion regional highway near Maniram College in the Battala area.
According to locals and police three-wheeled vehicle likely skidded on the wet road during heavy rain causing Sajib to fall and be fatally struck by the vehicle. Bystanders found his body lying near the vehicle on the side of the highway and immediately notified the authorities.
Borhanuddin Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Moniruzzaman confirmed the recovery of the body. He stated that initial investigations suggest the vehicle lost control in the rain leading to the helper's death.
The driver of the tom-tom fled the scene immediately after the incident and remains at large. Police are currently working to apprehend the driver and further investigate the accident.
