The government is working to build a humane, discrimination-free and prosperous Bangladesh, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives State Minister Mir Shahe Alam MP said on Wednesday.

He made the remarks while distributing wheelchairs among people with special needs, bicycles among female students and fruit, medicinal and forest tree saplings among students at an event at the Shibganj upazila parishad premises in Bogura.

The event held at 11:00am, also saw schoolbags distributed among winners of the ‘Notun Kuri’ championship. Sanitary napkins were handed over to the heads of 15 educational institutions while corrugated iron sheets and cash assistance were distributed among people affected by disasters.

“Ensuring that the benefits of development reach marginalised people, persons with special needs and students equally is one of the government’s key objectives” Mir Shahe Alam said.

Giving a bicycle to a student is not merely providing a means of transport, but also making their educational journey easier and more convenient, he said. Similarly, providing wheelchairs to people with special needs is a humanitarian responsibility aimed at ensuring their mobility and dignity.

The state minister said the government was prioritising education, healthcare, social security and environmental protection. “Today’s students will build tomorrow’s Bangladesh. So, alongside education, they must be encouraged to become responsible towards society and the environment” he said.

He said improving people’s quality of life remained at the centre of the government’s development agenda and pledged continued support so that no one felt neglected or deprived.

Local representatives, government officials, political leaders, teachers, students and other prominent people from Shibganj and Mokamtola upazilas attended the programme.
