


Detective Branch (DB) police have arrested two female Union Parishad (UP) members with 30 Yaba pills in Pangsha upazila of Rajbari district.
The arrests were made during a raid on Tuesday afternoon on College Road in Pangsha Municipality confirmed Rajbari DB Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mofizul Islam later that night.
The arrestees were identified as Hamida Khatun, 47 and Sajeda Begum, 40. Both serve as reserved seat members for the Majbari Union Parishad in Kalukhali upazila. Hamida represents Wards 1, 2 and 3 while Sajeda represents Wards 7, 8, and 9.
According to police officials, a DB team led by Sub-Inspector Shimul Sheikh conducted the anti-narcotics drive based on a tip-off. The team detained the two elected public representatives after recovering the illegal drugs from their possession.
Majbari Union Parishad Chairman Kazi Shariful Islam stated that he had heard about the arrests of the two female council members through local sources, though he had not yet received official notification from the local administration.
Legal action is being taken against the arrestees under the Narcotics Control Act.
