Police and journalists in Gazipur have pledged to work together to improve law and order and strengthen public trust.
The commitment came at an Eid reunion and discussion meeting held on April 2 at the conference room of Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP).
Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Israil Howlader exchanged Eid greetings with journalists and discussed the overall security situation in the city.
In his remarks, the commissioner said crime in the metropolis has declined in recent times. He credited both law enforcement efforts and the responsible role of the media.
“The media is the mirror of society. Ensuring sustainable security is not possible without journalists’ cooperation,” he said, adding that closer coordination would help build public confidence and improve crime control.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, accountability and public safety through continued engagement with the media.
Senior GMP officials, including Additional Police Commissioner (Admin and Finance) Mohammad Taherul Haque Chauhan and Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Ops) Mohammad Belayet Hossain, were present at the event.
Journalists from print and electronic media in Gazipur took part in the discussion. They welcomed the initiative, saying such interactions help strengthen mutual understanding and professional cooperation.
During the meeting, journalists raised concerns about local crime in several areas, especially in Tongi and Ashdanagar. They highlighted risks of clashes linked to drugs, extortion and land disputes, warning that serious incidents could occur if not addressed quickly.
Police officials assured that necessary steps would be taken based on the concerns raised.
The event was seen as a positive step toward building a safer Gazipur through cooperation between law enforcement and the media.
