Two fuel shipments carrying liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) have arrived in the waters of Chittagong port, offering relief amid ongoing energy supply pressure.
The development was confirmed by the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation on Thursday (April 3).
According to officials, the unloading process will begin shortly after completing required formalities, including sample collection and laboratory testing of the fuel.
Authorities have already completed technical preparations, while security at the port has been strengthened to ensure smooth operations.
Senior officials from BPC will be present during the unloading process to supervise the operations.
Officials said the imported fuel will help increase national diesel reserves, stabilise fuel supply in the domestic market and will reduce pressure caused by global energy disruptions.
The Chittagong Port authority and BPC are jointly working to ensure quick unloading and distribution.
BPC sources said such imports are being carried out regularly to manage supply shortages linked to global market instability and rising demand.
The arrival of LNG and LPG shipments is expected to ease supply constraints and support ongoing government efforts to maintain energy security.
