


State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam has requested Malta’s support for Bangladesh’s candidacy for the Presidency of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) for the 2026-2027 term.
The request was made during a meeting with Malta’s Non-Resident High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Reuben Gauci, on Wednesday.
The two officials discussed regional and global stability, emphasizing the need for stronger international cooperation.
Exploring a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the European Union to boost economic ties. Facilitating visa services for Bangladeshi workers and students directly from Dhaka to reduce costs and processing time. Enhancing partnerships in education, gender equality, and commercial exchange.
Both representatives reaffirmed their commitment to deepening political ties at both bilateral and multilateral levels.
