At least 30 people were injured in a violent clash between villagers in Bhanga, Faridpur, over the announcement of a football match using a microphone.
The incident took place on Friday evening at Munsurabad bus stand on the Faridpur–Bhanga–Khulna highway and continued for about two and a half hours until 7:30 pm.
According to local sources, the conflict began two days earlier when a teenager from Munsurabad village was broadcasting a football match over a loudspeaker. People from neighbouring villages—Khapura, Singardak and Majhikanda—allegedly assaulted and insulted him.
Tensions escalated on Friday when Jinnat Mia, president of the Munsurabad Bazar Banik Samiti, was reportedly attacked and seriously injured.
Following this, villagers from both sides gathered with locally made weapons at different points along the highway. A prolonged chase and counter-chase ensued, with both sides throwing bricks at each other.
During the clash, several shops were vandalised and looted. As darkness fell, villagers used torch lights and continued the clash.
Police arrived at the scene and, with the help of local leaders, managed to disperse the crowd by nightfall. Additional police have been deployed in the area to prevent further violence.
The injured are being treated at Bhanga Upazila Health Complex and nearby facilities. Jinnat Mia remains in critical condition.
