The National Citizen Party (NCP) has issued a strong condemnation of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, accusing the party of exploiting religion as a political tool to incite division, hatred, and violence.

In an official written statement signed by Joint Member-Secretary and Media Cell Editor Mushfiq Us Saleheen, the NCP alleged that Jamaat is attempting to re-emerge in a dangerous "old pattern of violent and authoritarian politics" instead of embracing the "new political culture" that has evolved since August 5th. The NCP views this trend as "ominous" for the country.

The statement specifically rejected and condemned a press release issued by Jamaat-e-Islami on December 7th which targeted NCP Member-Secretary Akhtar Hossain. The NCP described Jamaat's statement as "false, fabricated, and misleading," asserting it was detached from reality and violated political norms.

The NCP defended Hossain's recent comments at the December 6th launching event of the National Professionals Alliance (NPA), stating they were responsible and based on evidence. Hossain had referred to recent violence, including a clash in Pabna's Ishwardi on November 27th where gunfire erupted during election campaigning. Crucially, the NCP statement pointed out that district detectives had confirmed the shooter, Tushar Mondal, was a Jamaat activist and was arrested with firearms. The NCP labeled Jamaat's denial of this evidence as a "condemnable effort to hide the truth and evade responsibility."

The NCP reiterated its core charge: that Jamaat is "stirring up divisive and violent politics by misusing religion" and choosing to revive confrontational practices instead of respecting the changing political environment. The party stressed that violence, armed politics, and the misuse of religion are fundamentally incompatible with democratic political culture.

Finally, the NCP urged all political parties to act responsibly ahead of the upcoming national election for the sake of peace and stability, and called on Jamaat-e-Islami to "take a clear stand in favour of truth, peace, and democratic values."
