


A discussion on the role of media in socio-economic development, followed by an Iftar mahfil, was held at the Sariakandi Model Press Club on Monday evening.
The event, organized in honor of local journalists, emphasized the responsibility of the press in fostering regional growth. Retired Army officer Colonel Jaglul Ahsan attended as the chief guest. During the session, he presented a personal check of Tk 1 lakh to the Press Club to support the professional development of local journalists.
Speakers at the meeting described journalism as the "mirror of society," urging reporters to remain united despite differing opinions. Senior journalists advised their younger colleagues to maintain strict professional ethics, verify information diligently to combat rumors, and prioritize objective reporting.
The program commenced with a recitation from the Holy Quran. Before Iftar, special prayers were offered for the nation’s prosperity and the independence of the media.
The meeting was presided over by Shahadat Zaman, President of the Model Press Club and RTV representative. Other notable speakers included Adv. Sadrul Anam Ranju, Mahbubul Alam Tupul (Former GS, Municipal BNP), Matiur Rahman Moti, Mahid-ul-Nabi Mishu, Sajjatul Monowar Sajib, and Zulfikar Alam Runu. Zafrul Sadik (General Secretary, Model Press Club), Harunur Rashid, Imran Hossain Rubel, Mainul Hasan Majnu, Rashed Mondal, and others representing various national and local dailies.
