The National Citizens Party (NCP), a youth-led political platform born from the 2024 July Uprising, celebrates its first anniversary today, February 28. Under the slogan, "The country will move forward; there is no return to fascism," the party and its affiliates have organized nationwide programs.
To mark the occasion, the NCP is hosting a central Iftar mahfil at Dhanmondi’s Abahani Ground, themed "Revolution, Alternative, Construction." This event kicks off a 10-day series of celebratory and political programs across the country.
The NCP emerged following the student-led mass uprising of July-August 2024. The party officially debuted on February 28 last year at Manik Mia Avenue, where the sister of martyr Md. Ismail Hasan Rabbi, Mim Akhter, announced the party’s name.
The party’s foundation is built on the promise of a "new political settlement" and the establishment of a "Second Republic." Its launch was attended by high-profile leaders across the political spectrum, including senior representatives from the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, Nagorik Oikya, and the Gono Songhoti Andolon, highlighting its role as a significant emerging force in Bangladesh's political landscape.
