Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday pledged his government's full commitment to honoring those who sacrificed their lives or suffered injuries during Bangladesh's independence struggle in democracy movements and the July uprising.
Speaking at a program in Tejgaon to distribute job appointment letters to affected families, Prime Minister said the government would not retreat from this responsibility despite practical challenges. "We will make our utmost efforts to fulfil the aspirations of those who sacrificed their lives" he said, adding that support from these families gives the government strength and purpose.
He assured attendees that assistance would continue regardless of political affiliation also acknowledging that no compensation could truly offset their losses. "We were with you, we are with you, and we will remain with you," he said.
Reflecting on the July uprising, Tarique Rahman said Bangladesh's 20 crore people had been freed from what he called a fascist system through the events that led to the martyrs' absence. He prayed for those still missing and grew visibly emotional while addressing victims' families.
A total of 74 people received appointment letters during the event, including relatives of enforced disappearance and killing victims, injured uprising fighters, and families of the deceased. The Prime Minister personally handed letters to 10 recipients, including relatives of victims Iftekhar Ahmed Dinar, Khaled Hossain Sohel, Anvir and Ahnaf along with uprising fighters Alal Ahmed and Kazi Saimum Siraj.
Recipients thanked the Prime Minister and called for justice in cases of enforced disappearance and killing.
Senior officials including the Cabinet Secretary and Principal Secretary, attended the program which was hosted by the PM's Additional Press Secretary.
